July 2013
AVEVA PDMS is a powerful software tool for engineering and design. Improvements to the software since version 11.5, however, have been fairly stagnant. AVEVA’s latest software update, however, offers a striking deviation from this cycle with AVEVA Everything3D (E3D).
Several developments appear in the new software, but all have the same goal: improved efficiency and functionality! Indeed, AVEVA integrates its famous lean management tools and techniques to eliminate all non-value-added activities. Lean management facilitates continuous gains in productivity, quality, time, and cost throughout the project.
Concretely, this translates into a more successful integration of laser readings with the LFM module. AVEVA acquired LFM Software in 2011, specializing in laser data management. AVEVA E3D offers direct laser scan data integration to integrate existing facility data into the design!
AVEVA has initiated a complete overhaul of the ergonomics, a significant improvement from previous versions. The new toolbar centralizes all functions of the software, another contribution to Lean Management.
A new 3D engine makes for easy viewing and heightened element rendering for a more complete model by integrating shade and a greater depth of the visual field.
AVEVA has adopted flexibility regarding the different standards that may serve the same design project, opening the door for integration and exchange of data with other design software.
AVEVA promises a significant reduction of size for creating and managing projects of all sizes with AVEVA E3D.
AVEVA E3D has also made significant improvements to what is considered to be the weak point of all the engineering and design modules, Draft. The new Draw function promises promises to improve ergonomics and ease of use. They have drawn from the strengths of their competitors, including the mouse movement of AutoCAD and the circular button bar of Solidworks.
We look forward to further testing and implementation of AVEVA E3D going forward.
